Senator John McCain’s campaign expressed its outrage at Senator Barack Obama’s “lipstick on a pig” analogy, claiming that it was an oblique reference to running mate Sarah Palin, who is comfortable comparing herself to a pitbull, but not swine. When asked if perhaps the alleged reference was to McCain and not Mrs. Palin, campaign manager Rick Davis asserted that McCain was not a “nancy boy,” a rumor that started after a 1957 incident where McCain appeared in drag at a Naval Academy mixer, which Davis explained was the result of “too much Jack Daniels and not enough sense.”
