News Item: Focus on the Family Action releases it’s annual “2008 Christmas-Friendly Shopping Guide” which advises us which greedy commercial enterprises “embrace Christmas,” and alerts us to those who have “purged or marginalized Christmas.”

angry-santaAhh, the Christmas season. Peace on earth, goodwill to all men, except to those of you who don’t think and behave the same way the self-appointed Guardians of the holiday spirit have deemed worthy. For several years these folks pummled Wal-Mart, which certainly deserves to be pummeled for many secular reasons, for saying “Happy Holidays” rather than “Merry Christmas.”  Now the Guardians bring us a brand new naughty ‘n’ nice list that includes:

Naughty: Barnes & Noble, Bed, Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, Borders, Circuit City, Dick’s Sporting Goods, & Kmart. In other words, all my favorite stores, except Kmart <shudder>.

Nice: Crate & Barrel, Dillard’s, Eddie Bauer, L.L.Bean, Lands’ End, Linens ‘n Things (Chapter 11),  Macy’s, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Pier 1 Imports, Target  & Wal-Mart. Ironically, this includes all of the Admiral’s favorite stores.

Conspicuously absent from either list is Victoria’s Secret, which pretty much tells you that the Guardians do not look at catalogs or ads that feature thongs and push up bras. Maybe next year.

Heathen that I am, I not only embrace Christmas, I fondle it, grope it, tweak it, and cuddle it, and bask in the afterglow of post consumption frenzy.
